Dry Creek Vineyard
2005 Heritage Zinfandel(Sonoma County)
In plain terms, this is a lot of Zinfandel for the money (about $15). The core fruit source is Beeson Ranch, one of Dry Creek Vineyard’s long-term contract vineyards in Dry Creek Valley and the source of a higher-priced vineyard-designated Zin. The rest of the fruit comes from America’s most under-rated Zinfandel appellation of all, Alexander Valley. So ignore the county appellation and get the wine into your glass.
Stylistically, this is the kind of Zinfandel that made Dry Creek famous: graceful, balanced and flavorful. The fruit runs to red and black berries with summer spiciness - reserved in the aromas but explosive in your mouth. Everything is wonderfully ripe without ever crossing the line into raisin territory, the acidity is spot-on, and 12 months in a mix of French and American oak gave the wine a sensual body and texture.
